Babies in Academia
The lovely ladies at Arkansas Women Bloggers have been kind enough to allow me to be a guest on their site this week. My essay is a reflection on having a baby while a doctoral student, but I have a feeling my experience is not unlike that of a lot of women who work outside the home and make babies. The book entitled Mama, Ph.D: Women Write About Motherhood and Academic Life (Rutgers University Press 2008), edited by Elrena Evans and Caroline Grant, is a series of essays by women in academia whose stories closely parallel the experience I had and inspired me to put down in words my own story. I owe a special thanks to author Christina Katz for promoting this book on her blog “The Empowered Writer” and sending it my way.
