The History Lesson

Parenting a teenager is at times frustrating and maddening. Sometimes, though, it’s downright hilarious and utterly profound. Like the other night . . .

We were just pulling out of the McDonald’s drive-thru (hey, don’t judge, it’s not like I was going to win Mother of the Year anyway) when my son said, in regards to his Chicken McNuggets, “I’m really grateful for Eli Whitney. And interchangeable parts. Interchangeable parts made America. America is great.”

I can’t speak to the  accuracy of his historical analysis, but I think he’s onto something if he’s looking at processed chicken and thinking of the Industrial Revolution and the genius of interchangeable parts.
